Benefits of a Good Eye Cream

Beautiful eyes have inspired poets, painters and philosophers since the beginning of time. In Love’s Labour’s Lost William Shakespeare wrote:

“For where is any author in the world
Teaches such beauty as a woman’s eye?”

Think of the skin around your eyes as a canvas and you will surely take the steps to keep your eyes beautiful and radiant. A good eye cream is specially formulated for the more delicate skin around the eye. Active ingredients target special problems unique to the eye area. Botanical hyaluronic acid moisturizes and improves elasticity. Skin surrounding the eye is prone to dryness. We know what dry skin results in – wrinkles, fine lines and a look of fatigue. This may be true from teen years to late in life. Such a situation would not have inspired Longfellow to write in Spirit of Poetry:

“Within her tender eye
The heaven of April, with its changing light.”

Age, sun exposure, or genes may cause dark circles under the eye. A good eye cream that contain vitamins C, K and B3 can lighten that circular darkness. Puffy eyes can occur from body fluids that pool in the skin. Caffeine helps reduce swelling or puffy eyes, by increasing circulation. Cold temperatures can also reduce puffiness.

Rather than thumbing through books, today we are more likely to be squinting at screens. Dry eye may occur and that small gesture of squinting may be creating unwanted burrows beneath your brows. Apply a good eye cream and like a sponge, the skin around the eye absorbs what it needs.

Emerson writes in Conduct of Life, Behavior:

“Eyes are bold as lions —roving, running, leaping, here and there, far and near. They speak all languages. They wait for no introduction…”

You shouldn’t wait to get the benefits of a good eye cream. Most people apply cream or serums at night and it works fine. But if you wake up in the morning with puffy, irritated eyes moisture may have moved the cream into your eyes. Avoid this by applying in the morning. Or you may have applied cream too close to the eyes.

Whether morning or night, eye cream should be applied with your ring finger beginning with a tiny dab below the inner corner of the eye. Add more tiny dabs about one quarter of an inch a part along the orbital bone. Avoid the eyelid and eyelash. Smooth onto skin and finish at the upper outer corner of the eye where crow’s feet may be. Do not rub or pull on the skin, an easy glide with the ring finger is best.

In Tis Sweet to Think Thomas Moore wrote:

“And the world’s so rich in resplendent eyes,
‘Twere a pity to limit one’s love to a pair.”

Natural Fixes For Dark Under-Eye Circles

We have researched some great natural remedies for you to try or explore to treat those dark under-eye circles but first I think it’s important to know that even if you have gotten plenty of sleep and you still wake up with those dark under-eye circles it doesn’t mean it’s about fatigue. Mayo Clinic’s staff has defined that what appears to be dark circles under the eyes are sometimes just shadows cast by puffy eyelids or hollows under the eyes that develop as a normal part of aging. That’s right aging, something that none of us can escape from. Thinning skin and loss of fat and collagen are common as you age and can make the reddish-blue blood vessels under your eyes more obvious, sun exposure and rubbing or scratching your eyes are also common causes of under-eye circles.

So the question is how can you prevent them and what natural home remedies can treat them. Our research found a ton of natural fixes but we picked our top seven favorites for you and they are:

1) Watch your diet. You can never dispose of dark circles on the off chance that you don’t take care of your diet. Here are a few tips for you to increase a proper diet and lifestyle to get rid of those dark circles.

a. Drink lots of water (8 to 10 glasses) to avoid water maintenance.
b. Have a greater amount of green verdant vegetables.
c. Reduce salt intake in your diet.
d. Have substances rich in vitamins A, C, E and K.
e. Exercise.

2) Get enough Sleep. Bloodshot eyes, bags, dark under-eye circles, and puffiness can all be reduced, if not completely erased, by getting enough sleep. To further reduce puffiness and darkness under your eyes, sleep on your back with head slightly elevated. This posture allows fluids to drain from your face. Use an extra pillow so that your head is at least a couple inches above your body.

3) Use Cold compresses Bags of ice, cold spoons, tea bags or frozen vegetables-place
them over your eyes for a few minutes to decrease swelling. The cold works by constricting blood vessels and preventing the flow of fluid into the eye’s tissues. Cucumber is, by a wide margin the most applied home remedy to get rid of dark circles under the eyes. It contains various antioxidants that help reduce discoloration and inflammation. Place chilled cucumber slices on your closed eyes, and the cool temperature helps in backing off the puffiness by diminishing aggregation of liquid under the eyes. Potatoes are great as well- they stay cold for a long time and are rich in various antioxidants, they also are known to have natural bleaching agents that lighten the skin.

4) Massage. Mix coconut oil and almond oil and massage gently in circular motion around the eyes (be careful to not put into the eye). Leave it on for about an hour. This should be done daily.

5) Pastes. Turmeric has been utilized since old times to nourish the skin and give it a healthy natural gleam. The curcumin component of turmeric is an excellent antioxidant and has anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which can help reduce inflammation, reduce damage caused by free radicals and diminish wrinkles and fine lines.

Try this Turmeric-Pineapple paste:
2 tsp of Turmeric powder
1-2 tsp. of fresh pineapple juice.

Mix the pineapple juice with the turmeric powder to get a paste. Apply this to the area around your eyes covering your dark circles totally. Leave for 20-30 minutes. Wash with water and if required lukewarm water because turmeric stains a lot.

6) Avoid extreme time in the sun. Wear sun glasses when you need to go out into the sun.

7) Moisturize. Unlike the skin on the rest of your face, the eye area does not contain oil glands that can help keep this skin moist, so applying moisturizer under your eyes can keep them healthy looking. Creams created specifically for the eye area prevent fluid build-up by restricting the blood vessels around the eyes and tightening the loose skin. We recommend you seek out natural/organic, plant-derived ingredients that contain a good source of antioxidants and vitamins.
