Aside from how delicious citrus fruits are, they have enormous benefits for your skin.  They contain antioxidants that are loaded with Vitamin C and Vitamin E, helping to freshen, moisturize and rejuvenate your skin.

There’s an array of citrus we can discuss but since we are a Greek-Inspired natural skin care line we are going to focus specifically on lemon and orange citrus fruits.

Greek culture has a true obsession with lemons. A single lemon has between 40
and 70 percent of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C.

Lemon extract diminishes wrinkles by promoting the synthesis of collagen and elastin.  Collagen is a protein compound that serves as a filler to your skin and elastin maintains your skins elasticity.  Vitamin C found in lemon extract boosts your skin’s capacity to produce protein compounds necessary to fight off wrinkles.  It also gives your skin a natural glow. It exfoliates, brightens and clears acne for a smoother more even skin tone. It naturally bleaches the skin and quickens the rate in which dark spots, scars, sores, sunspots, acne scars and age spots fade.  Lemon extract is also known to help reduce oily skin. Lemons contain a great source of calcium, magnesium and potassium filled with minerals.  We just love lemons!

Oranges are considered a superfood for skin care. It makes sense that orange extract is another effective anti-wrinkle treatment.  It has mild bleaching properties and is rich in Vitamin E.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to heal and rejuvenate the skin. It’s powerful antioxidants help prevent wrinkles and fine lines while correcting the skin’s oil balance.  Many studies have confirmed the healing properties of oranges. They contain a wide array of phytonutrients that function as antioxidants, including flavanones, anthocyanins, polyphenols, and Vitamin C.  These antioxidant nutrients help protect you from the extensive damage of free radicals (from the sun), which alter the chemical structure of your skin cells.

Citrus fruits, especially lemons and oranges, are good for you and your skin, internally and externally. That is why we have included them as ingredients in YASOU’s vegan cellular day cream.

Nature knows what we need. Eat citrus fruits daily. Use skin care products that allow you to tap into the power of lemon and orange extracts topically. They may just keep those wrinkles away.  YASOU!
